It is not known when coffee was first introduced in Malta although it is assumed that during the time of the knights of the Order of St. John in our islands, coffee and not tea was the most popular beverage consumed. In fact, from existing evidence, the manufacture of coffee pots in Malta can be traced as far back as the end of the 17^th century.
